Costs associated with natural hazards have increased greatly in the last few decades, both within the US and around the world. A new book,
"Curbing Catastrophe: Natural Hazards and Risk Reduction in the Modern World"
published by Cambridge University Press in January 2017, discusses natural and human made hazards, and how we can reduce their impact. The book is meant for a general audience, but an on-line Appendix has additional background material and problems for students, making it suitable for undergraduate classes in geology and geography, natural hazards, and ecosystem studies.
