Lidia recently graduated from the University of South Florida with a B.S. in Biomedical Sciences and a minor in Creative Writing, and Biomedical Physics. She is working as a Patient Care Technician in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Tampa General Hospital and is applying to medical schools. In the NICU, Lidia helps with weekly MRSA swabs and sympathizes with the family when one returns positive, adding another complication to their baby’s NICU stay. She has also seen how some bacterial infection have quickly turned discharge planning into an extended NICU stay. She is excited to see meaningful research in action and help Dr. Eswara’s team investigate mechanisms of bacterial fission which will hopefully lead to new treatments for bacterial infections.
