Julie is currently working towards a bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences here at the University of South Florida. She is a third year student from New Jersey deciding between medical school and optometry school. She is the secretary of the Pre-Optometry Professional Society. Her interest in investigating antibiotic resistance in bacteria was sparked while taking the microbiology lab. Given that bacteria are rapidly evolving organisms, scientists must regularly find new ways to target them in order to properly treat the infected. While volunteering in the Eswara lab, she hopes to learn much more about current bacteria-related issues that contribute to the health of today’s society, all while mastering important laboratory techniques and expanding her critical thinking skills. In her down time, she enjoys yoga, camping, exploring new beaches and traveling.
